As we stand on the cusp of significant change in our sport, I am both honoured and excited to officially announce my candidacy for the position of President of World Triathlon. Triathlon is a sport that has connected millions of athletes around the globe, and I believe that now is the time to embrace fresh ideas, bold leadership, and a shared commitment to take our sport to the next level.
All candidates were recently invited to present at the Europe Triathlon Congress, answering a series of set questions.
A New Starting Line for Triathlon
Every triathlete, no matter where they are in the world, shares a common bond—the starting line. It’s where our stories intersect, where we find passion, and where we experience triumphs and challenges. This election represents a new starting line for World Triathlon, a unique opportunity to redefine how we grow, innovate, and elevate triathlon on a global scale.
A Vision for Transformation
The future of our sport depends on strong leadership that not only understands its history but is also willing to challenge the status quo. A vote for me represents the future, not an extension of the past. Here are the key pillars of my vision for World Triathlon:
1. Think Global, Act Local
It is imperative that World Triathlon provides the leadership and strategic roadmap for the next 4, 8, 12 years of our sport and beyond. To do that, we need to be informed by and engaged with our NFs and Continental Confederations on what those strategies will look like locally. Creating an agile and modern organisation will mean thinking differently about events, funding, marketing, relationships and more. By leveraging the unique strengths of each region, we can foster innovation, tailor our approach to regional needs, and elevate our sport across the globe.
2. Sustainable, Reliable Events
Our current race calendar is unreliable, leading to frustration for athletes, race directors, and partners alike. My vision is to create a sustainable event series that offers both reliability and variety. I will champion the design of a race program that not only strengthens existing events but also creates clear pathways for athletes, allowing them to thrive regardless of where they live or race.
3. Financial and Environmental Sustainability
We face growing challenges in maintaining the financial and environmental health of our sport. I am committed to smarter, data-driven governance that ensures long-term financial stability while taking concrete steps toward greater environmental responsibility. By partnering with other sports, we can address shared environmental challenges like water quality and climate impact, making triathlon a leader in sustainability.
4. Collaborative Governance and Stronger Engagement
Leadership must be collaborative and transparent. As President, I will work to strengthen the relationships between World Triathlon and its member federations. Regular, proactive communication will ensure that national federations are part of every key decision, and we will build a future based on mutual trust, shared goals, and collective action.
A Future Built on Transformation and Innovation
The world of sport is evolving rapidly, and triathlon must evolve with it. The current leadership model and governance structures need a transformation. We need fresh ideas, new energy, and a commitment to innovation that will ensure our sport continues to inspire future generations.
This is a critical moment for World Triathlon, and I believe I am the leader our sport needs to navigate this new era. My track record of leadership at the national and continental levels, combined with my deep personal connection to triathlon as an athlete and coach, positions me to make a lasting impact.
The Road Ahead: Let’s Work Together
I look forward to the opportunity to meet with federations around the world in the coming weeks to discuss my vision in more detail. Together, we can shape a future where triathlon continues to grow, inspire, and thrive on the world stage.
Thank you for your support as we embark on this exciting journey to lead World Triathlon into a brighter, bolder future.
